Forest Facts
Santa Maria, a popular flowering shade tree, grows throughout the tropics of the West Indies, Mexico, Central America, and northern South America, in soils varying from wet to very dry. A medium sized, slow growing, tropical evergreen, Santa Maria can reach heights up to 150 feet under favorable conditions and often occurs in pure stands, thus promising to be an important species in the conservation of tropical rain forests and in reforestation.
Wood Facts
Santa Maria, with its interlocking grain, medium texture and reddish-brown color, is well-suited for general indoor use in flooring, paneling, cabinetry, and furniture. With proper sealant it can last for years in outside applications, such as decking, railings, posts, beams, and boat building.
